“Once you’re in, you’re in for life” – Mike Engel, MLCV’s Vice President of Hospitality Innovation and MLCV Polar Plunge Leader.
MLCV, in union with its Grand Casino subsidiary, has been hosting the Polar Plunge to raise money for Special Olympics Minnesota since 2012. Each winter, MLCV Associates, family, friends, and community members gather at Eddy’s Resort perched at the shores of Lake Mille Lacs in Onamia. The day is electrifying — the hardy people, the unpredictable weather, and the meaningful cause. There’s nothing quite like it, and MLCV is proud to take the plunge.
Between 2017 and 2022, a total of $190,262 has been raised solely by MLCV and Grand Casino Associates and their loved ones. While with the addition of In-Kind Catering at the Executive Challenge Plunge, over $250,000 has been collected.
Each year, the numbers have soared in totals with sponsorship and fundraising combined. That bar has been elevated again this year, with an additional $39,978 raised from 107 plungers at the Mille Lacs Polar Plunge on March 11. There is little question that the number will climb over $40K in next year’s celebration.
MLCV’s Executives also participate in the Executive Polar Plunge Challenge set in Minneapolis annually. This year, on Lake Nokomis, the team brought in $20,050 towards the $412,225 total from business Executives state-wide.
MLCV’s support for Special Olympics Minnesota grew from the principle of creating and providing resources to ensure everyone has the opportunity to live their best lives. The inclusiveness of this principle is one we pursue to protect within our mission and workplace culture. Once you take the plunge, you’re absorbed. Absorbed in the frigid-cold waters — yes. But absorbed in the energy of the crowd and the hope you’re creating, that’s what will keep you in for life.
